Afghanistan Peace Conference kicks off in Moscow today sans Taliban


MOSCOW: Russia-sponsored Afghanistan Peace Conference is starting here today while delegation of Afghan Taliban is yet to arrive in Moscow.
US media reports that Afghan Taliban have regretted to attend 11 parties Afghan Peace Conference.
According to a foreign news agency, Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said that Taliban were not attending the conference.
“We cannot call these negotiations as a dialogue for the restoration of peace in Afghanistan”, said Zabiullah Mujahid.
Meanwhile, reports from Kabul indicate that delegation of Afghan government was leaving for Moscow to attend the conference.
Additional Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Tasneem Aslam and Special envoy of
Chinese Foreign Ministry on Afghan Affairs Deng Xijun have already reached Moscow to attend the Afghan Peace Conference.
Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Iran are attending the conference.
The agenda of conference revolves around rise of terrorist organization “Daesh” in Afghanistan.
It may be mentioned that United States has already regretted to attend this Peace Conference and dropped its heaviest non-nuclear bomb of 21,000 pound in Achin district of the Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday evening— a day before Peace Conference. – Reuters
