Pakistan defeated in hockey match

MELBOURNE: Australia Wednesday defeated Pakistan in their first match of the International Festival of Hockey at Melbourne’s State Netball and Hockey Centre.
The 9-1 defeat is Pakistan’s worst-ever in its hockey history. Pakistan’s previous worst came when Holland defeated Pakistan 9-2 at the 2006 Champions Trophy in Terrassa, Spain. The team are a record four-time World Champions.
Australia, the reigning world champions, dominated the proceedings almost throughout the game.
In the four-nation event, Pakistan play Japan — which held a strong New Zealand side 1-1 in their last match — on Thursday.
