CM expresses dissatisfaction on referral system in hospitals

PESHAWAR:Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has expressed dissatisfaction over the referral procedure in public sector hospitals and directed authorities concerned to remove existing weaknesses in the system.
He was presiding over a meeting held CM Secretariat to review up gradation of different healthcare centers, improved healthcare facilities, maximum utilization of healthcare units and removal of grievances confronted by poor patients at local healthcare centre.
Secretary Health Abid Majeed and other concerned officials attended the meeting. Chief Minister termed the existing referral system obsolete and said that it merely shift burden to other hospitals despite the fact that upgraded system in healthcare facilities has the capacity to address requirements of poor patient.
The system needed to be improved, its weaknesses removed and rendered absolutely efficiently, he added. Pervez Khattak directed a combined institutional monitoring mechanism for both the education and health sector and presence of doctors. He said that those who failed to fulfill their responsibilities would be punished accordingly. He also agreed to the up gradation of Basic Health Unit (BHU) to Rural Health Centre (RHC) Jalozai.He also issued directives for RHC Spin Dak and construction of Aza Khel Bala hospital on already identified available land.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed for a combined IndependentMonitoring Unit (IMU) for both in health and education sectors for ensuring presence of health and education staff in their respective institutions.
