Governor appreciates ECP measures for transparency in elections

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that holding free, fair and transparent elections is a constitutional responsibility of Election Commission and in this connection, new technology can play pivotal role in maintaining transparency, ultimately strengthening the democratic process. He expressed these views while addressing participants of a ceremony held in connection with National Voters Day at Governor House here on Thursday.
Appreciating measures taken by the Election Commission in this regard, he highlighted the need for legislation for increasing awareness among the people of importance of vote. Referring to the importance of voting and election arrangements the Governor said that participation of the respective people from FATA on the adult franchise should be ensured and according to the proposed reforms process.
While referring to Elections Act 2017, he added, it will bring more transparency during election process as it is a big achievement of the government. The governor emphasized upon the election commission to take concrete steps to facilitate special people and women in the election 2018. The ceremony was held at Jirga Hall of Governor House. At the end of the ceremony an awareness walk was also organized towards main gate of Governor House. The walk was led by Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra along with members of Provincial Assembly, Vice Chancellors of Universities, additionalchief Secretary FATA.
Moreover, students from different colleges also participated in walk. Placard and banners were raised on which slogans regarding importance and awareness of vote casting was painted. Member of Election Commission of Pakistan Justice(R) Irshad Qaisar, and Provincial Election Commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmed also addressed the audience on importance of National Voter day.– APP
