Govt sets up Engineering College in FATA, focuses on education 


PESHAWAR: For provision of quality education to tribal students at their doorstep, government has established Engineering College in FATA which will start operation in the current month. After successful establishment of FATA University in Darra Adam Khel, it was decided to set up an Engineering university in tribal area, said Additional Chief Secretary FATA, Fida Muhammad Wazir.
Addressing a press conference here at FATA Secretariat on Monday, ACS FATA said the Engineering College is established in Sadda (Kurram Agency) and admission of students will start from current month. The government has decided to provide quality education on fast track basis and in this connection private sector has also been invited to FATA.
He disclosed that soon renowned private educational institutions including Peshawar Model School, Edwards College, City University, CECOS University etc will open up their branches in FATA. The administration of Peshawar Model School has agreed in opening of their branches in Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies, he added. Similarly, soon a separate Medical College for tribal students will be established in FATA within next six months. ACS said government is fully focusing on reconstruction, rehabilitation and development of FATA through proper and judicial utilization of funds. In the last year’s Annual Development Programme (ADP), 83 percent of funds were allocated for ongoing schemes and 17 percent for new ones.
The focus was on completion of ongoing schemes, he added. Similarly, in the current year’s ADP, 70 percent of funds are reserved for ongoing schemes and 30 percent for new ones. In the rehabilitation process, focus is on engagement of FATA youth in productive activities and for this purpose livelihood opportunities are being created. He said in agriculture sector about 120,000 acres of land in FATA has been brought under cultivation so that people could make their earnings through farming. The government is also providing better health facilities to tribesmen and for this purpose different hospitals are established. Earlier tribesmen used to visit Peshawar and other parts of the country for medical treatment, but now they are getting this facility at their home towns, he continued. He informed that local people have been engagement in medical treatment so that they could better perform their duty. Earlier, there was problem of absence of staff due to inability of medical staff in reaching FATA for performing duty.
The ACS also disclosed that two years training is being imparted to local tribesmen in nursing, paramedics and supporting staff who will join their duties at different hospitals in December 2017. For technical education, a proposal is floated for provision of vocational training to boys and girls students in FATA so that they should have some skill in their hands while completing education. For this purpose, request for funds have been made to the government and work will soon start over it.
He said another programme is also launched for provision of technical training to aspiring female folk at their door step. Additional Chief Secretary FATA said government is fully progressing in reconstruction and development of FATA and in this connection all the targets are achieved.  He said the process will continue and soon the goal of developing FATA will be achieved.– APP
