KP, Afghans students have equal education opportunities: Minister


PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Education, Muhammad Atif Khan said here Thursday that KP and afghans refugees were being provided uniformed educational opportunities besides indiscriminate scholarships to position holders of the province. He expressed the views while talking to UNHCR allegation also attended by the Secretary Education Dr Shahzad Bangash and other relevant senior officials.
The UNHCR delegation told the Minister that their organization wanted cooperation with KP Government in education sector in all those districts where afghan refugees are settled in high number. The Minister also appraised the delegations about his government education reforms and success in education sectors.
Appreciating UNHCR offer, the Minister said 28pc of the total KP budget has been allocated for education sector besides making the government’s schools a model one. Over Rs21billion has been spent on provision of missing facilities in schools and Rs7 billion are being spent on provision of furniture to all schools. As many as 1340 IT labs have been established and interactive boards in 1100 schools are being setup. During last four years, he said 40,000 teachers were recruited on merit and 15000 more teachers would be recruited this year.
