ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Society of Hematology and Head of Hematology Department at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Maj. Gen. Sohaib Ahmad has said that with the advancement in medical science various cancers are now curable.
He said human genome, to diagnose various blood cancers including leukemia and lymphoma, can be studied on latest medical equipment for as low as US$ 40 which used to cost US$ 100,000 in the past. He was speaking on ‘genetic basis of blood cancer’ while addressing to the seminar on “latest trends in diagnosis and management of leukemia and lymphoma (blood cancers)” by Shifa International Hospital here on Friday.
Former President Pakistan Society of Pathologists Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Masood Anwar was the chief guest of the seminar. President and Chief Executive Officer SIH Dr. Manzoor H. Qazi, Medical Director SIH Dr. Salim Khan, Chief Pathologist SIH Dr. Fazal Elahi, Chancellor Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University Dr. Muhammad Ata, Consultant Oncologist Dr. Kamran Rasheed, Consultant Histopathologist and Hematologist SIH Dr. Imran Nazir Ahmad, Brig. Dr. Tahir from AFIP and a large number of cancer experts, pathologists and hematologists from Armed Forces and other institutions attended the seminar.
