Rs500m allocated for jammers in KPK jails

PESHAWAR: The Prisons Minister, Mian Nisar Gul KakaKhel Monday said that the federal government has allotted Rs500 million for installation of mobile signal jammers in different jails. 

The prisons minister announced this in a question answer during a provincial assembly session. He informed the assembly that around 80 terrorists and 161 inmates on death row were incarcerated in 23 different jails of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). 

The minister said that the decision to install jammers comes after the approval of federal government which allotted Rs500 million for the task. 

Mian Nisar Gul said that the last two years, four criminals including a woman inmate managed to escape from prison. 

Prior to the announcement, Nighat Orakzai said that notorious criminals were using mobile communication to their benefit from their jail cells.
