25 killed, 35 injured in bomb explosion in Hangu

HANGU: At least 30 people were killed and 35 others sustained injuries in an explosion in Hangu area of Lower Orakzai here on Friday.
According to details, the blast occurred in Kalaya Bazaar where a large number of people were present for shopping.
The blast ripped through he market and caused destruction on a vast level. Rescue teams shifted the dead bodies and injured to Kalaya hospital.
Security forces cordoned off the area following the attack.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General directed all the Regional Police Officers (RPO) to place security on high alert.
Initial results showed the blast was caused by “an improvised explosive device hidden in a carton of vegetables, which killed 30 people and wounded over 35 others,” Khalid Iqbal, a senior administration official in Orakzai district in the semi-autonomous tribal areas, said.
Orakzai is one of seven restive semi-autonomous tribal regions on the Afghan border, an area that has long been a focal point in the global war on terror.
