820 prisoners released after payment of Rs270m fine by provincial govts

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has given Eid gift to 820 families by ensuring release of the helpless prisoners who were languishing in jails despite completion of their sentence due to non payment of fines.
As many as eight hundred and twenty prisoners have been released in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the direction of Prime Minister in connection with Eid-ul-Fitr.
The provincial governments paid Rs 270 million in respect of fine of these prisoners yesterday.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Firdous Ashiq Awan said the release of such prisoners is in-line with the Islamic injunctions and also indicates the government cares for the dispossessed segments of the society.
The prisoners released from the Central Jail Lahore hailed both Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar for ensuring their release and enabling them to celebrate Eidul Fitr with their families.
