Afghan cooperation imperative to wipe out terrorism in region: Aizaz

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Foreign Affairs Aizaz Chaudhry has said that Afghanistan’s cooperation is imperative to wipe out terrorism and ensure peace in the region.
In an Interview, he urged Afghan leadership, military intelligence, and other stakeholders to come forward to formulate strategy to resolve the problems.
Aizaz Chaudhry said Pakistan is taking all important steps like border management and patrolling on border areas to stop the infiltration of terrorists from Afghan side to this region.
He said that Pakistan’s military and civil leadership had given message to the Afghan side to take measures so that terrorists using Afghan soil against Pakistan could be controlled in a befitting manner.
Aizaz Chaudhry said Pakistan and regional countries had serious concerns of the presence of “Daesh” in Afghanistan which could be a threat for the region.
He said that America could play role and ask Afghanistan to take serious steps for ensuring peace in the region.
To a question, he said Pakistan’s wish for peace must not be taken as weakness and we want amicable resolution of all the issue with neighbours.
To another question, Aizaz Chaudhry said that Pakistan civil and military leadership unitedly made efforts to flush out terrorism and development in the country.
Delivering a talk on Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Challenges and Opportunities in Islamabad, the Foreign Secretary said that terrorism is the biggest challenge faced by Pakistan.
He said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was providing numerous opportunities for national development.
Aizaz Chaudhry said unrest in Afghanistan affected Pakistan badly and made the national security vulnerable to various threats.
He said that Pakistan enjoyed good relations with the international community at large to pursue a peaceful neighbourhood and to strengthen economic cooperation.
