ANP asks KP govt to step down, demands re-polling under caretaker setup

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) has demanded the resignation of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for holding free and fair re election of local bodies government.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, ANP chief said that while the incumbent government is in power, transparent elections cannot be held. 
"Free and fair elections cannot be held under the current government, even if they are under army supervision," the ANP leader reiterated.
The ANP leader suggested that a re-poll should take place for local government as well as provincial assembly under a caretaker setup. He also plead that the the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should be strengthened.
The ANP chief further said that it was the government’s responsibility to maintain law and order in the province during the LB polling. In response to a question, Wali said that the law and order situation is not the ECP’s responsibility, it is the provincial government’s responsibility.
"If in Punjab the government is responsible for rigging, then your government in KP is responsible for rigging here as well", added Asfandyar. 
On this occasion, he said that the arrest of former minister Mian Iftikhar disturbing and said that the supporters would take revenge with “interest”. The ANP chief said that they do not fear jails and they have survived oppression earlier.
