Anti-encroachment drive continues in Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Saturday continued its an anti-encroachment drive in the metropolis’ Saddar area on seventh day.
During the operation, shops located in the bird market, cloth market and dried fruit market were destroyed using heavy machinery.
Talking to newsmen during the operation, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Anti-encroachment Senior Director Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui, the encroachments around Empress Market would be removed within few hours’ time. He said that the Empress Market would be restored to 50 years old original state in the next 15 days.
He said that around 1000 illegal shops were being demolished today, adding that after the drive, KMC and the police will set up camps in Saddar to ensure that the encroachments do not return.”
“A task force has been created to stop the encroachments in Saddar which will comprise KMC, anti-encroachment and police members,” he said.
