MARDAN: Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has formally been closed down for one month due to the protest of sacked employees of the campus.
A notification issued by the AWKUM’s registrar said that the varsity has been closed down for one month while offices would remain open and examinations would be conducted as per schedule.
Few days back, the university syndicate decided that the appointments made in the tenure of previous Vice Chancellor Ehsan Ali were illegal.
Following this, the syndicate sacked as many as 274 employees including grade-16 officers as well.
Enraged by the decision of the syndicate, the sacked employees staged protest demonstration against the university administration which continued till today.
The protesters warned that the protest would continue until they are reinstated and announced that they would go to Islamabad if the notification of their dismissal was not taken back.
