QUETTA: Members of the Balochistan Assembly are likely to elect the new leader of the house today with Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Syed Liaqat contesting for the slot.
Member of the provincial assembly hailing from Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid e Azam Group) Bizenjo enjoys enough support of the assembly members.
According to media reports, in the 65-member provincial assembly, members from the opposition and treasury benches support Bizenjo for the slot of the chief minister.
Besides Bizenjo, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) MPAs, Syed Liaqat has also filed nomination papers for the post of Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, PkMAP leader Abdul Ziaratwal, who had also submitted nomination papers, has withdrawn his candidacy in support of Bezinjo.
Let it be known that on January 09, former chief minister Sanaullah Zehri stepped down from his post following pressure in the wake of no-trust motion against him in the assembly.
The political crisis began with Bizenjo submitting a no-confidence motion against the chief minister on January 2.
