Baltistan buckles under ravages of floods

RAWALPINDI: The ravages of destructive flash floods cut off land links of several villages in Baltistan division. Also, floodwater entered into as many as 110 houses in Nar Goru. 
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), nearly 74 families of village Nar Goru village of Skardu have so far been shifted to safer places and accommodated them in tents as precautionary measure.
Seven government schools and nine powerhouses were adversely affected by floods. 
Moreover, vast swathes of 20,000 kanals of lands have been deluged.
Land-sliding disconnected Kharmand village of Pari. Furthermore, ten connecting bridges and 30-km long roads were destroyed. 
A glacier-formed lake gave way in Shagar area of Wazirpur, submerging low-lying areas. 
The flood had damaged crops and few mud-houses in the affected areas, however, there was no loss to human lives and livestock there.
Pakistan Army, in its ongoing relief operation, held free medical camp and distributed cooked food among 450 individuals in the flood hit-area. Besides, it provided blankets to the affected people aimed at protecting them from weather conditions.
The Local Brigade Commander also visited Nar Goru village to assess the situation. (APP)
