PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed the inability to understand as to why the leaders and workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were arrested ahead of the arrival of PML-N’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.
In a twitter message, he said that right to peaceful protest is fundamental for democracy and asked as to why Lahore was under siege when Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz returned to country.
He wrote, “Understand the legal grounds for arrest of MNS after NAB conviction but on what grounds are workers and leaders being arrested? Why is Lahore under siege? Right to peaceful protest is fundamental for democracy”.
The PPP Chairman lamented the security plan for Lahore as he was not allowed to leave for Peshawar by air.
“While PM select was allowed to fly, Our permission was canceled after shortly afterwards. After having been on the road for 2hrs am now told permission is now granted. Bizzare. Plan on getting to Peshawar come what may”, he wrote.
Let it be known that several leaders and workers of PML-N were arrested ahead of the arrival of Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz while several roads had been blocked to bar PML-N’s stalwarts from reaching Lahore airport to welcome their leaders.
