ISLAMABAD: In a special budget meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the federal cabinet approved 30% to 35 per cent adhoc increase in salaries of the government employees.
During the federal cabinet meeting, the budget for the upcoming fiscal year was approved, and a final decision was made regarding the increase in salaries and pensions of government employees.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance briefed the cabinet on the budget and informed that the Ministry had proposed a 20% relief in salaries and pensions of government employees. After discussing the Ministry of Finance’s proposal in the cabinet meeting, a decision was made to approve a 35% increase in salaries of the government employees from Grade 1 to Grade 16 while 30 per cent increase in the salaries of the officials of grade 17 and above. The cabinet also approved 17.5 per cent increase in the pensions of government employees. The cabinet also approved Rs32000 as minimum salaries of the labourers.
According to sources, the PPP ministers had demanded 40 per cent increase in the salaries. However, the finance minister said that it is impossible.
