Need to ensure transparency, supremacy of law in Pakistan: CJP Nisar

ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has said cement factories will have to pay for underground water they are using.
Hearing a case pertaining to cement factories Friday, Chief Justice remarked that underground water is very precious and cement factories are using it but now it will not be available to them for free.
Also taking notice of the use of underground water by mineral water companies, Chief Justice directed Punjab Food Authority to seek report from all the companies as to how much water they are using and how much they are paying for it. The chief justice also sought report from Karachi-based companies.
He directed the companies to submit the data by Friday night (tonight).
CJP Nisar also directed the attorney general and all advocate generals to convey his directives to mineral water companies.
“Water is very precious for us. Mineral water companies are acquiring water free of cost after installing turbines and then selling it at exorbitant prices,” he remarked.
“We will take all possible measures to preserve water,” he added.
The chief justice said that the case will be heard on Saturday in the SC’s Lahore registry.
