ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday barred Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from making new appointments.
Heading a three-member bench of while conducting hearing on a suo motu notice regarding PIA’s privatization, the CJP remarked that an inquiry would be conducted against those responsible for PIA losses.
During the hearing, Dr Farrukh Saleem presented a forensic audit report of PIA before the Supreme Court, which disclosed that PIA had suffered losses worth 360 billion rupees over the last ten years.
CJP remarked that the country will not progress without taking responsibility adding that it has to be determined as to who is responsible for the PIA losses.
The CJP also said that the matter would be referred either to NAB or a commission would be constituted to hold people accountability for current state of affairs of the national flag carrier. The chief justice said for how long PIA will remain a liability on the national exchequer.
