CJP takes suo motu notice of police violence against journalists

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar Thursday took suo motu notice of police violence against journalists in Islamabad.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi-based journalists took out a rally on Press Freedom Day. When they reached D-Chowk, the police did not allow them to march towards Parliament House Building.
The police baton-charged the journalists while a female journalist was slapped by policeman. However, later on deputy commissioner Islamabad talked to the protesting journalists and allowed them to march towards the parliament house.
The chief justice also took suo motu notice of the incident and sought report from local administration.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Poeples Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan strongly condemned the incident and expressed solidarity with the media persons.
