ISLAMABAD: The head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed to probe assets of Sharif family in wake of Panama Papers, Wajid Zia has recorded his statement against former finance minister Ishaq Dar in accountability court.
Wajid Zia appeared before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir who conducted hearing of assets reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Ishaq Dar.
During the proceedings, Wajid Zia also presented volume I and IX of the JIT before the court informing the Judge that the probing body presented its final report on July 10, 2017.
Wajid Zia told the court that the JIT recorded statement of Ishaq Dar and obtained record from Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), banks, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
He informed the court that assets of Ishaq Dar increased 91 times from 1992 to 2008-09.
As many as 26 out of 28 witnesses have recorded their statements against the former finance minister in graft reference.
The NAB, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision in Panama Papers case on 28 July 2017, has filed a reference in the accountability court against Ishaq Dar for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.
