Deliberations underway to bring back wanted persons from abroad: Afridi


ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior, Shehryar Afridi has said that deliberations are underway to bring the persons wanted to law enforcement agencies back to the country from abroad.
Responding to a question in the Senate, he said Pakistan has extradition treaties with thirty-three countries while bilateral and multilateral relations with countries will also be used to work out the method for arrest of wanted persons in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
The Minister said people sitting abroad after violating the law of land will not be spared.
To a question regarding drug traffickers, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said Anti-Narcotics Force has been acting against drug traffickers. He said the federal and provincial governments need to work in coordination to check drug trafficking.
The Minister stressed the need for establishing rehabilitation centers for drug addicts saying a fresh survey about drug addicts should also be conducted.
Responding to a question about erstwhile FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Muhammad Khan said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is very much ready for it. He said Levies Force will be merged into police in the tribal districts.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said a total of 1,63,000 employees including those sacked in 1996 were regularized by the Committee headed by PPP leader, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah.
Reacting to PML-N leader Mushahidullah Khan’s claim of incorrect information about employment of his relatives in PIA by the Information Minister, the Minster said the opposition should demonstrate patience and listen to the people on the treasury benches.
In his speech, PPP Senator Mian Raza Rabbani said atmosphere of the House should not be stained by raising controversial issues.
Earlier, Senate resumed its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad this afternoon with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair.
