SWAT: The fertile land of Swat has produced yet another jewel as the valley boasts off by the first woman surgeon in the region.
Lady doctor Uzma is a young surgeon who received her initial education from her home town and then did her MBBS with flying colors from Khyber Medical University, Peshawar. After completing her MBBS she embarked on another venture of FCPS in general surgery.
She has been performing her duties as a senior registrar at Saidu Teaching Hospital. Dr Uzma feels proud of being the first lady general surgeon and recalls the difficulties she encountered during militancy. Similarly, she also recounted the skewed comments of people when she revealed her plan of doing FCPS in general surgery.
Uzma highlights the importance of female general surgeon in Swat as previously many women used to visit Peshawar for treatment in absence of female surgeon. She also utters about the difficulties encountered by females during the process of diagnosis as they were not comfortable in discussing their problems with male surgeons.
