LHC cancels PEMRA chairman Absar Alam’s appointment

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) was held in Islamabad on Monday to discuss the implementation of the electronic media code of conduct.
Chairman PEMRA Absar Alam chaired the meeting.
Taking notice of a delay in action against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) move to set aside the direct-to-home (DTH) license auction held last year, the meeting directed Pemra Chairman to file an appeal in the apex court against the decision.
he participants of the meeting directed the chairman to “immediately file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the LHC’s Nov 23, 2016 decision”.
The meeting asked Pemra Chairman Absar Alam why there had been a delay appealing against the LHC’s decision.
The meeting issued the notices to different TV channels for broadcasting wrong news about the Blast in Gulberg Lahore.
The meeting directed all the channels to strictly follow the code of conduct and show national responsibility while broadcasting news and reports. The meeting also directed TV Channels to avoid airing immoral contents in their shows.– APP
