ECP issues bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan, Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued bailable arrest warrant of the PTI chairman Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry and directed the Islamabad police to produce them before the commission on March 14.
The ECP heard the contempt of Election Commission case against PTI leaders including Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar. A 4-member bench comprising Election Commission members Nisar Durani, Shah Muhammad Jatoi, Babar Hassan Bharwana and Justice (R) Ikramullah issued the order.

According to the text of the order, Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry had been deliberately asking for adjournment, which is tantamount to mockery of the commission. The order states that behavior of the PTI leaders is not acceptable, their absence before the commission is deliberate.
The order states that neither Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry nor their lawyers appeared before the Election Commission during the previous hearing. The commission ordered the IG Islamabad Police to execute the bailable warrants of Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.
The Election Commission also ordered Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry to submit Rs50,000 bonds.
Meanwhile, reacting to the ECP’s order, the PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that the order of the Election Commission was a violation of the orders of the Lahore High Court. “We would ask high court to summon ECP in contempt of court case”.
