Fawad Chaudhry sent to jail on judicial remand

A local court in Lahore on Wednesday approved transitory remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry to take him to Islamabad in a case pertaining to threating the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and its members.

The PTI leader was arrested early Wednesday morning from his residence in Lahore presented to the Cantt court amid tight security. During the hearing, the investigating officer requested the court to grant Islamabad police Fawad’s transit remand.

A case had been registered against Fawad Chaudhry in Islamabad’s Kohsar police station on the application of ECP secretary; who blamed PTI leader for talking against the commission and chief election commissioner.

Approving the transitory remand of Fawad, the court ordered to conduct a medical examination of the PTI leader before he is taken to Islamabad.

Talking to media whilst being taken to the courtroom, Fawad said that he would have appeared before the police voluntarily only if they had called him.

I am not going to run away, police arrested me in a similar way as they arrest a terrorist, he said.
