KARAK: At least six people including four women were killed in flash flood in Takht Nusrati tehsil of Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Saturday morning.
According to local sources, police with the help of local people retrieved the dead bodies of four women and two men.
The sources said that people were collecting wood in the floodwater when they were washed away by a strong flood. People in many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa often go to different rivers and nullahs after heavy rains to collect wood from the flood water, but this practice often results into tragic happenings.
Meanwhile, rain continued to lash some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.
According to latest weather update issued by the Pakistan Metrological Department, mainly partly cloudy and humid weather is expected in most parts of the province. However, rains/wind-thunderstorm are expected at scattered places in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Haripur, Torghar, Malakand, Chitral, Bajaur, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera districts, while at isolated places in Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and South Waziristan districts.
During the next 24 hours, isolated heavy falls may generate flash flooding in Battagram, Torghar, Shangla and Mansehra districts, while land sliding in the vulnerable areas of these districts cannot be ruled out.
The relevant authorities have been directed to take necessary measures amid rains and threat of flooding and land sliding.
According to the Met Office, Peshawar received 27mm, Cherat 20mm, Balakot 17mm, Bannu 15mm, DI Khan 10mm, Kakul 9mm and Malam Jabba received 3mm rain during the last 24 hours.
Highest maximum temperature was recorded in Pattan with 43 degrees centigrade.
