Former Olympian Asad Malik dies in road accident

LAHORE: Former Olympian Asad Malik, a member of the gold-winning Pakistan’s 1968 Summer Olympics team died in a road accident on Monday. He was 78.

His gold medal-winning goal against Australia in the 1968 final had the honour of his action photograph of that goal immortalised on a Pakistan postage stamp.

Malik, who hailed from a hockey-playing family also won two silver medals in the 1964 Summer Olympics and 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He was also a recipient of the Pride of Performance in 1969.
