Four Afghan children die as boats capsize in Turkey

KABUL: Six children, including four Afghans, drowned on Friday when boats carrying illegal migrants to a Greek island sank off the coast of Turkey, state media reported.
Recently tens of thousands of Afghans in droves left for Europe especially Germany through illegal ways, but some ended up sinking in seawaters between Turkey and Greece and others facing numerous hardships on their way.
One boat carrying 55 Afghans and Syrians capsized due to strong winds and high waves in the Aegean, the Anatolia news agency said. Coastguards have so far recovered bodies of four Afghan children.
Two more children died when their vessel heading for the Greek island of Kos sank off the coast near Bodrum. The sinking was linked to heavy rains and stormy weather.
Hosting 2.2 million refugees from the conflict in Syria, Turkey has become the main transit point for people fleeing war for a better life in Europe.
In one incident, two siblings — aged 1 and 4 — lost their lives when a boat with 23 refugees. The bodies were found later on.– Agencies
