ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Information Minister Syed Ali Zafar says the government is taking all necessary measures to hold elections in a transparent and peaceful manner.
Talking to media in Islamabad this afternoon, he said we are committed to hold the general election as per schedule.
To a question, he said activities of NAB and other investigation agencies will have no impact to delay or postpone elections. He said caretaker setup is not supposed to interfere in working of the investigative agencies, including NAB. He said anyone, who has any reservations about activities of NAB or other investigative agencies can approach courts against them.
Answering another question, he said army would be deployed in extremely sensitive polling stations to ensure peaceful elections. He said security personnel will be deployed at various polling stations across Pakistan as per requirement.
Replying to a questioner, the Minister said National Disaster Management Authority has told him that there is no threat of country-wide flashfloods during current season, However, he said floods can occur in some parts of the country.
Syed Ali Zafar said the issue of load-shedding cannot be addressed fully without improving transmission system and generating electricity through other sources, like hydel, wind, solar, and thermal.
Regarding merger of erstwhile FATA with Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, the Minister said federal and the provincial governments have identical views on each and every issue in this regard.
He said there are many technical issues need to be resolved for completion of the merger process. These include legislation, exemption from taxes, and allocation of proper funding. He hoped that all these issues will likely be resolved in few days.
