Imran Khan to inaugurate Peshawar BRT on August 13 2020
PESHAWAR (Khyber News) PM Imran Khan accompanied by Chief Minister of KP Mehmmod Khan will inaugurate the Peshawar BRT on August 13.
Everything is in readiness for the launch of much-awaited flagship project of the PTI government – BRT).
Peshawar BRT project, which has encountered various delays, was launched by PTI government during its previous term in the province.
Cost of the project started in October 2017 was evaluated at Rs49 billion with a timeline of 6 months, however, the cost has escalated to over Rs70 billion.
PHC has also ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct investigation of the BRT project but the provincial government challenged the verdict in Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Bus Rapid Transit project was inaugurated in October 2017 by the then CM Pervaiz Khattak and he had announced to complete the project in 6 months. But in fact, it is completed in three years.
Official documents state that the initial estimate for the BRT project was Rs 49.43 billion, but the cost of the revised PC-1 had increased to Rs66.43 billion, which was further increased to Rs 70 billion. The Asian Development Bank and AFD had provided $593 million loan for the project, while the remaining amount was provided by the provincial government.
