Inflation on the rise, reaches 48.02 per cent

ISLAMABAD: The trend of increasing inflation in the country is continuing and the annual rate of inflation has reached a record level of 48.02% based on yearly calculations. According to the weekly report on inflation issued by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, during the past week, the prices of 23 essential items of life, including flour, sugar, beef, chicken, eggs, pulses, milk, and yogurt, have increased, while 7 items have decreased and prices of 21 essential items have remained stable.
During the week, according to the Bureau of Statistics, tomato prices increased by 6.32%, sugar by 3.41%, flour by 2.99%, tea by 2.66%, potatoes by 2.14%, dry milk by 1.91%, eggs by 1.83%, basmati rice by 1.42%, lentils by 1.19%, beef by 1.18%, and washing soap by 1.04%. Similarly, during the week, onion prices decreased by 9.40%, chicken prices by 2.25%, LPG prices by 1.51%, garlic prices by 1.39%, chickpea prices by 0.13%, and sesame oil prices by 0.05%.
According to the statistics, during the past week, the rate of inflation for the class with a monthly income of up to PKR 17,732 on an annual basis increased by 43.67%, while the rate of inflation for the class with a monthly income of PKR 17,733 to PKR 22,888 increased by 47.61%. Similarly, for the class with a monthly income of PKR 22,889 to PKR 29,517, the rate of inflation increased by 46.96%.
