ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday remarked that they would not close eyes and allow the government to do whatever it wanted.
Hearing the suo motu case related to former Pakistan Television (PTV) chief Attaullah Haq Qasmi’s appointment as managing director, CJP said that the government ignored regulations in the appointment.
He added that there must be some rules for the government’s powers and rules saying that the government relaxed age requirements for the post in Qasmi’s case.
Qasmi’s counsel Ayesha Hamid stated that the PTV chairman’s appointment was the federal government’s prerogative.
To this, the chief justice remarked that since the matter pertains to a public appointment, the court may review it.
The hearing was then adjourned until tomorrow while Qasmi did not appear in court as ordered.
