GUJRANWALA: The assassins of Rana Shamshad, an MPA of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from Gujranwala, have been arrested late Saturday.
According to police sources, police, moving on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, arrested the accused Naveed along with his three accessories.
Police said the proclaimed offenders hailed from Patwari group.
It should be mentioned here that Rana Shamshad was assassinated along with his son and an aide in an apparent incident of targeted killing on Sunday (May 31).
The PML-N leader, who was aboard a black car on his way back from his farmhouse in Kamoke, Gujranwala, was ambushed near Raja Bhaley by masked gunmen.
The PML-N stalwart in Gujranwala died on the spot after being critically wounded with at least ten bullets. His son Ahmed and aide Shakir, who were seriously injured, later succumbed to their wounds at hospital.
Shamshad, who belonged to a politically active family, was elected as member of the Punjab Assembly from the PP-100 constituency on a PML-N ticket. He served as minister for transport.
