Local Govt Act: KP govt empowers political parties to de-seat dissidents

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved amendment in Local government Act 2013,  giving powers to political parties to de-seat any of its district, tehsil and town council’s members if they violate party’s decisions.
Talking to newsmen after provincial cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Pevaiz Khattak, the provincial information minister Mushtaq Ghani said the cabinet approved amendment into Local Govt Act 2013,  saying that clause 74(7) calls for party-based elections of district, tehsil and town councilors. He added, however, there was no clause in the  act, which could empower the parties to take action against any of its councilor if he violates party’s decision.
He said that a new section 78 (A) has been added into the Act to empower the political parties to disqualify any of its member if violates party decision.
