NA approves bill for PHC, SC’s extension to FATA

National Assembly to meet today

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Friday approved for the extension of Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Supreme Court’s (SC) jurisdiction to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
According to media reports, the bill was tabled by the newly appointed law minister Mahmood Virk.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F)Naeema Kishwar while opposing the bill presented several amendments; however, they were rejected by the House.
The lawmakers hailing from FATA have been demanding the merger of the tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
However; despite agreement, the government failed to bring the bill in Parliament as it is opposed by its allied parties JUI-F and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.
In the last session of the National Assembly, the opposition had boycotted the House over the government’s failure to table the FATA Reforms Bill.
