NAB authorizes inquiry against DG Peshawar Development Authority

PESHAWAR: The Regional Board Meeting (RBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has authorized an inquiry against Director General (DG), Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), Muhammad Saleem Hassan Wattoo over alleged corruption in several projects.
The meeting was held here under the chairmanship of DG NAB KP, Brig (Rtd) Farooq Naser Awan.It was attended by Directors, Additional Directors, Case Officers, Senior Legal Consultants and other concerned officers.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, it is alleged that he embezzled funds in renovation of DG PDA’s House, Installation of Street Lights on GT/Jamurd Road, in Toll Plaza Hayatabad, installation of Digital Hoarding Boards.
He awarded contracts without open competition to his hand-picked companies in construction of roads in Regi Model Town Peshawar, in establishment of Food Street in Phase-VI Hayatabad, installation of Tuff tiles in Hayatabad Markets.
He hired ghost employees and illegally promoted junior officers. Further, it was alleged that DG PDA misinformed the authorities about completion of Bab-e-Khyber Project and awarded himself and his hand pick favourites honorarium.
He hired a fleet of private lawyers for himself on pay-role of PDA in violation of Central Law Officers Act 1971 and Supreme Court Orders.
It merits to mention here that Peshawar High Court in deciding a writ petition filed by Saleem Wattoo DG PDA, allowed NAB to initiate inquiries against him on fresh complaints.
Another inquiry was authorized against Officers/Officials of Agencies Education Offices FATA and FRs regarding corruption and embezzlement of funds.
It is alleged that ghost employees are working in Education Department in FATA and FRs; many are receiving double salaries in connivance with the officials of Agencies Education Offices
The Regional Board also decided to file reference against Muhammad Shoaib, Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Tehsil Municipal Administration, District Kohat regarding misuse of authority committed in illegal appointments in various cadres in violation of rules and regulation.
Another reference was recommended for the approval against Gul Habib, Ex-Superintendent, Grid Station Haripur regarding accumulation of assets beyond known source of income of worth Rs 45.620 million.
