ROME: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif here on Wednesday said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are inseparably placed in the region and peace in one country is not possible without peace in the other, DG ISPR Major General Asim Bajwa reported.
Addressing a gathering at Centre of International Studies in Rome, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said that both the countries have a shared destiny.
The Army Chief said the international community acknowledge Pakistan’s effort for reconciliation but both sides need to be vigilant as detractors and spoilers pose challenge for Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan made sincerest effort for Afghan reconciliation process.
Giving details on progress of ongoing anti-terrorism operation in tribal areas, the COAS said that operation Zarb-e-Azb is a comprehensive concept against terrorism and army will ensure terror free Pakistan and region at every cost.
He said major operations progressed well and now last few pockets are being cleared.
Zarb-e-Azb will ensure peace in Pakistan and beyond. Terrorists won t be allowed re-establish their hideouts in the areas, he added.
He said terrorism is a conflict for world but it is a war of survival for Pakistan. “Our enemies stoking terror to destabilise our country but we are determined to defeat them,” he said.
General Raheel Sharif said that global threats need global response and this war could only be won if all countries come together.
