Parliamentary Committee on National Security reviews US-Pakistan row

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on National Security is meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad where Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif is expected to brief political leaders on the ongoing diplomatic row between Pakistan and the US.
The in-camera meeting of Parliamentary Committee o National Security commenced with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah, Barrister Zafarullah, Senator Mushahidullah, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan People’s Party leader Naveed Qamar, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and others are attending the meeting.
The Committee will deliberate upon matters relating to national security, especially in the backdrop of anti-Pakistan statements emanating from Washington.
Let it be known that the US President Donald Trump, in his tweet, had said, “The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools.”
He added, “They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”
This statement of Donald Trump hatched a war of words between the US and Pakistan whereas it also triggered strong reaction from political leaders across the country.
After the Trump’s statement, Pakistan also convened a high-level meeting of federal cabinet and National Security Committee (NSC).
