Parliamentary party meeting of opposition rejects federal budget

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Opposition in the National Assembly on Wednesday termed the federal budget 2019-20 as people-anti and decided to vote against it in the house.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the parliamentary parties of the opposition benches in the lower house of the parliament.
The meeting was presided over by Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in the committee room no 2 of the parliament house.
Addressing on the occasion, the opposition leader said, move to attend opposition’s APC is aimed to raise joint voice against the budget presented by the PTI budget. “The budget will further overburden the common man”.
Reacting on the National Accountability Burea’s (NAB) performance, he alleged that ‘selective’ accountability is underway in the country, former prime minister Raja Pervez Asharf’s plea for acquittal in the Nandipur power project case was rejected, while PTI’s Babar Awan got acquitted from the case.
Yesterday, Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak had claimed the PTI-led coalition government has the required majority to pass the Finance Bill 2019-20 in the National Assembly.
He said in a statement that there are no differences with the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), a coalition partner of the government at the centre, over the budget.
“The BNP-M was our coalition partner and is still with the government,” he said.
