Parvez Elahi handed over to ACE Punjab on transit remand

ISLAMABAD: On Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) Friday granted bail to Parvez Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, in the case related to the vandalism at the Judicial Complex.

The ATC Judge, Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, presided over the proceedings concerning Elahi, who also holds the position of president within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

During the hearing, the judge remarked that no incriminating evidence was discovered during Elahi’s time in custody, and he wasn’t even mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).

Consequently, the ATC court approved the bail for the former Chief Minister of Punjab and ordered his release, subject to a surety bond valued at Rs20,000. It’s important to note that on September 8, Elahi had been sent to jail for a 14-day judicial remand.

The seasoned politician had been re-arrested at the Islamabad Police Line shortly after being released based on the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision, which had suspended the order related to the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
