ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday termed the Supreme Court’s judgement in Army Chief extension case the victory of federation, parliament and democracy.
The Prime Minister gave these remarks while chairing meeting of PTI and the government spokespersons. The meeting was briefed by legal team regarding the apex court verdict.
Participants lauded judiciary’s role, stating that the Supreme Court has set guidelines for the future as no one raised these questions before. Legislation will be carried out in light of the SC verdict.
It was further mentioned that the court judgement has defeated those desiring conflict among key institutions of the country.
While hinting at two major changes soon, Prime Minister Imran Khan said he will visit Lahore on Saturday where he will take key decisions. Meanwhile, the members suggested that PML-N leader Rana Tanveer’s appointment as Chairman of Public Accounts Committee was inapproriate.
The premier directed the spokespersons to maintain stance of harmony among institutions. He said the country’s dwilindling economy has been stabilised. Internal and external enemies are not happy with this, he added.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had granted an extension in tenure for 6 months to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bajwa. The decision was announced by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, and comprising Justice Mazhar Alam and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah.
Leaving the matter on the government and parliament, the apex court had instructed that a legislation on this matter should be passed within six months.
