PML-N workers protest against Amir Muqam son’s arrest

Court grants bail to Amir Muqam’s son, others in corruption case

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers on Tuesday staged protest against the arrest of Amir Muqam’s son Ishtiaq in Peshawar.
The protesters blocked Shangla Alpuri road and chanted slogans against the detention.
Earlier, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had completed investigation into alleged irregularities in construction of Shangla-Alpuri road and arrested Ishtiaq, son of PML-N leader Amir Muqam.
The agency suggested departmental action against 11 officials of the National Highway Authority and also recommended to black list Amir Muqam and co.
The company was supposed to complete the Shangla-Alpuri 35 km road project within one year with a cost of Rs 850 million. However, the cost reached Rs 2800 million due to delay in the constriction.
The PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president said that his son is clean, adding that he would not stay quiet over vengeful activities of the government against opposition.
Reacting to his son’s arrest, he said that such tactics of the government and its communication minister cannot deter him.
He said that institutions are being used against him over Murad Saeed’s behest.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) should fulfil legal requirements based on truth and evidence instead of trying to please Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Condemning the action against political opponents, he said that his party will protest in and outside the Assembly.
Ami Muqam said that he would reach out to the courts for justice.
The FIA arrested Amir Muqam’s son along with five other contractors for alleged corruption in the construction of the Shangla-Alpuri Road.
FIA said the company had to complete the project costing Rs850 million in one year, but it could not be completed even after 10 years. The estimated cost of the project has now crossed Rs2,800 million.
