Police Act 2017 makes force answerable to public: IGP

PESHAWAR: Inspector General Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salah-ud-din Khan has said that new Police Act 2017 is being implemented in letter and spirit under which police force would be made more transparent and answerable to the public.
He was addressing a police darbar at Kohat police line on Tuesday The event was attended by officers and jawans of different units of Kohat region police besides DIG Kohat, Commandant Police Training College Hangu, DPOs Kohat, Hangu and Karak were also present on this occasion.
Police Chief said that he was proud of KP police force of which jawan had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in line of duty in the ongoing war against terror.
IGP further informed that KP police was being transformed and converted into a more trained, disciplined and professional force.
He reiterated his pledge that the process of such transformation would be continued.
IGP informed police darbar participants that steps would be taken for the solution of genuine problems and welfare of the force and in this connection all officers have been directed to take special care of the force jawan particularly heirs of police shuhadda.
He added that every SHO and SDPO would visit houses of shuhadda while DPOs would remain in constant touch with families of shuhadda. KP Police Chief disclosed that very soon law would be enacted about shuhadda under which RPO and DPO would be made bound for solution of all problems of police shuhadda.
IGP informed that primary purpose of establishing police department was the protection of life, honour, property and rights of the general public and reward and punishment in the force would be decided as per police effective response towards these rights.
He informed that due attention was being given to training of police and police operational and policy guidelines would be fully implemented and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
IGP maintained that all matters including transfer, posting and promotion in the force would be strictly carried on merit and no one be kept deprived of its due rights.
The IGP also distributed cash prizes and commendation certificates amongst the police officers and jawans who exhibited excellent performance in line of duty against terrorists and other out laws in different police action from time to time. — APP
