LAHORE: Caretaker information minister of Punjab and IG Punjab have claimed that the police have recovered petrol bombs, weapons and ammunition and arrested PTI workers during search operation at Zaman Park.
Addressing a joint press conference after search operation at Zaman Park residence of Imran Khan and anti-encroachment operation, IG Punjab Usman Anwar said that the police had court warrant for search operation at Zaman Park for arrest of accused in petrol bomb and stone attacks on Police on March 14 and 15. He said that the police have completed operation outside residential area and they were waiting for PTI leaders so that they could carry search inside the residence. He said that the police have recovered petrol bombs, weapons and ammunition during search operation at Zaman park.
Earlier, the area around Zamana Park was completely sealed off by the police. The police were accompanied by water cannons, bulldozers, and prisoner vans. With the help of a crane, the police dismantled the PTI’s camps and removed barriers and containers.
The police recovered weapons from the house, including 16 rifles. The police have stated that the operation was conducted after a search warrant was issued by the Anti-terrorism court.
A dozen workers were arrested outside Imran Khan’s house as they resisted, throwing stones at the police. The police fired tear gas to control the workers. According to the police, individuals seen in footage on television and in pictures as violent protesters were also arrested at Zamana Park. The process of identifying workers present in Zamana Park is ongoing, and individuals who attacked the Lahore police and damaged properties have been arrested.
