Policemen among seven killed in suicide blast, firing in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least seven people, including four policemen and three civilians were killed and 24 others sustained injuries in suicide bomb blast at the main gate of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and firing incident in Dera Ismail Khan here on Sunday.
Dl Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Riaz said that at approximately 7:45am on Sunday morning, unidentified gunmen on four motorcycles opened fire on policemen at the Kotla Syedan checkpost, martyring two policemen.
DPO said that following the gun attack, a suicide blast took place at the hospital where the victims were shifted. Three civilians were killed and two policemen were martyred in the second attack.
The DPO added that according to an initial probe, the suicide bomber allegedly appeared to be a woman and the attack seemed premeditated.
He said that 6-7 kilograms of explosive materials were used in the bomb. Police are investigating the attacks, he added.
Six people were killed in the blast and at least 15 people were injured. These include hospital security staff, three civilians and policemen. The injured were taken to CMH DI Khan.
The policemen have been identified as Hidayat, Aslam, Khalil and Kashif.
A hospital official said that the death toll might further rise as three of the injured are in critical condition.
The police and Frontier Constabulary have sealed the area.
