Powerful earthquake jolts parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A powerful earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan on Friday evening with affected cities including Lahore, Peshawar, and the federal capital Islamabad.
Tremors were also felt in Swat, Bannu, Nowshera, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Lower Dir and Upper Dir, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, and Kohat.
As per the PMD, the magnitude of the quake was recorded at 6.4 with a depth of 210 kilometres. Its epicentre was in the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan.
The US geological survey, however, has reported a slightly lower reading of 6.1.
A foreign news agency cited witnesses who saw the earthquake shake buildings in Pakistan, Afghanistan and northern parts of India.
As per Indian media reports, tremors were felt in the capital New Delhi, Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, occupied Kashmir, and several other parts of North India.
The Indian subcontinent has suffered some of the largest earthquakes in the world in recent decades.
