LARKANA: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto said that just as they do not accept anyone’s dictatorship in the country, they would not accept anyone’s dictatorship in the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a ceremony commemorating Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s death anniversary in Larkana, Bilawal Bhutto said, the if the larger bench of the Supreme Court decides for elections, then the PPP is ready for elections. However, he said that they would not accept one man show. “It was these same courts that validated the death sentences of workers through martial law and military courts during General Zia’s regime.”
He said that this trend continued until it reached Musharraf, and when Musharraf sought forgiveness for his excesses against Benazir Bhutto, Iftikhar Chaudhry started a new tradition by creating noise over NRO.
Bilawal said that the struggle of PPP’s Jiyalas brought Iftikhar Chaudhry back to the court, and when Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani restored him, instead of punishing Musharraf for violating the constitution, Yousaf Raza Gilani was punished and sent home. Then, another Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf, was dragged into the court, and he was named “Raja Rental,” but his policies are still in force today, and no one is ashamed or embarrassed.
The PPP chairman said that the decision of the rulers and the prime minister is not for a judge to make, but for the people to make. When PPP supporters were replaced with a dictator’s government in the past, the courts remained silent, but when there was a vote of no confidence in the Senate and floor crossing occurred, the court declared it a decision of the parliament, he said.
He said that the judiciary snatched the chief ministership for Pervaiz Elahi by taking away the throne of Lahore from the PDM, and as a result, the country is facing political and constitutional crisis. He said, “The judiciary took the Lahore throne from the PML-N to fulfill a promise to someone.”
Bilawal Bhutto said that to get out of the constitutional crisis, a full court should be formed by the Supreme Court and the two judges who were caught talking to the opposition on the phone should be removed from the bench. “Tomorrow, you decide the election, the PPP is ready to fight it.”
The chairman of the PPP said that if there is no ill will, then what is the problem in forming a full court? Form a full court and save the country from a constitutional crisis, restore justice and democracy so that the country can be stabilized. Otherwise, he added, the Lahore throne will take the entire country and federation under, and the people of Pakistan will suffer the consequences.
