KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh on Tuesday filed a petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his May 12 interview on Pakistan’s involvement in Mumbai attacks.
The petition maintains that the interview further sheds light on the UN resolution against Hafiz Saeed, who has been the suspect of Mumbai attacks, since years. “That the former PM’s statement implies that he is propagating to conspire against the state in order to retaliate against his lifetime disqualification from holding any public office and possible conviction in trial,” the petition reads.
According to the petitioner, Sharif committed treason by giving such a statement on the Mumbai attacks, and therefore, a case should be registered against him in this regard.
Sheikh also said that the name of the PML-N supremo should be placed on the Exit Control List, and the interior ministry alerted to file a complain against the former premier. Sheikh added that PEMRA should be directed to stop the airing of Nawaz’s speeches on national television.
A case against Sharif should be registered under Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the petitioner argued.
